Melanie Waugh has completed a Fine Arts Degree from The National Art School, Sydney (2001), a Diploma of Art Therapy from the University Of Western Sydney(2005) and in 2007, completed a Masters Of Art with Distinction from the College Of Fine Arts, Sydney.
Melanie’s narrative paintings combine a love of the landscape along with drawing and painting the figure. Over the past two years Melanie took a working holiday and was a stewardess on a sailing yacht in the Caribbean. The boat was based in Barbados and here Melanie was able to experience the day to day lives of people living on the island as well as those holidaying. Melanie has created a series of paintings during her residency at Curwoods from her time in the Caribbean capturing her romanticised memories of suntans and turquoise waters.
This will be Melanie’s fourth solo exhibition with the previous being in Sydney at Blankspace Gallery, Surry Hills and in Melbourne at Wall Gallery, Ascot Vale. She has also exhibited in group exhibitions at Barry Stern Gallery, S.H. Ervin, Mary Place Gallery and Kudos Gallery. Melanie has also been a finalist in prizes such as the Art On The Rocks, the Waverley Art Prize, The Lloyd Rees Youth Art Prize and Art Express.
